Delhi Capitals’ pacer Anrich Nortje joined an unwanted record list during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Nortje, 30, bowled one of the most expensive overs in IPL history as the Proteas pacer was smashed for 32 runs by MI’s power-hitter Romario Shephard and ended his spell with the figures of 65/2 in four overs.
Nortje’s spell put him sixth in the list of bowlers who bowled some of the most expensive overs in the history of the tournament. Harshal Patel remained first on the list after he conceded a record 37 runs in an over while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Chennai Super Kings in 2021.
Most runs conceded in an over in IPL history
37 — Harshal Patel against CSK in 2021
37 — Prashanth Parmeswaran against RCB in 2011
35 — Daniel Sams against KKR in 2022
33 — Parwinder Awana against CSK in 2014
33 — Ravi Bopara against KKR in 2010
32 — Anrich Nortje against MI in 2024
Earlier in the match, former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma slammed 49 off just 27 balls and completed 1000+ runs against the Capitals.
Before this game, Rohit Sharma, who has represented Deccan Chargers and MI, had scored 977 against Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) at an average of 32.57 at a strike rate of 131.14 including six half-centuries.
He is now only the third player in IPL history to score 1000+ runs against two teams.
Australia's David Warner, who plays for Delhi Capitals, achieved this feat against KKR and Punjab Kings while RCB legend Virat Kohli crossed the mark against Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.
